Maritime transport for centuries has been the largest logistic channel, and seaports are important transport hubs, connecting continents and countries.

For several years, the leading position among the largest ports in the world has been occupied by Shanghai which is also considered to be the busiest port in the world.

The Port of Shanghai, also known as SIGP (Shanghai International Port Group) comprises 125 berths in an area of 4km2. It serves more than 2,000 container ships on a monthly basis.   Today it is hard to believe that 20 years ago it was not even ranked among the top 20 world seaports.

Previously it was Rotterdam having served as the largest port in the world for 42 years between 1962 and 2004 before it was surpassed by Singapore and Shanghai.

The Port of Singapore was rated as the world’s largest port until 2010 and now holds second place in the category.
